Optimizing layout for various resolutions

What screen resolution should we design for?

Optimize for 1024x768: DO NOT design for a specific monitor size: Use a liquid layout:

This means that your web site will function better on this resolution, but still work fine on the other ones.

Three main criteria for optimizing a page layout for a certain resolution:

Test your web site in the various resolutions to see how it would perform. The most importan is that you go with higher resolutions in stead of smaller.

Users generally don't like to scroll. Most users should be able to get most of the information from your page in one or two full screens. Long drawn out pages that look like they should be rolled up on a scroll are not an ideal design. Mobile devices with a tiny screen can access your page through different outlets. This is a specialized situation. So, adapt your page accordingly.

BIG Screens

Bigger screens are the most common now a days. They make it easier to work on certain tasks. They are a worthwhile investment. Also, there is no need to design your web page to wide screen monitors.
